No sooner than the calendar turned to March than did the anticipation turn to ‘madness’ at Chapman University. The Panthers’ men’s basketball team’s long wait for an NCAA Division III postseason tournament berth finally ended on Monday morning. The NCAA announced that Chapman (23-2) will make its first appearance in the Division III championships.

In the final home game of the regular season, the Chapman University men’s basketball team collected its 12th consecutive victory on Saturday night in an 80-63 win over U.C. Santa Cruz at the Hutton Center. Four of the Panthers’ starting five earned double-digits in scoring as Chapman defeated the Banana Slugs for the third time this season.

With 13 points on Thursday night in a 79-66 win over Southwestern College, Chapman University men’s basketball player Kyle Wood became just the seventh player in school history to reach 1,000 career points. Wood entered the game just two shy with 998 and now has 1,011 points in 100 career games.

In its first home game in nearly a month, the No. 17 Chapman University men’s basketball team recovered from a slow first-half start to top West Coast Baptist College 77-59 on Monday night at the Harold Hutton Sports Center. The Panthers are 19-0 all-time against the Eagles dating back to the 2001 season when the teams first played.

A put-back layup by Shane Davis with 17 seconds remaining gave Claremont-Mudd-Scripps a 57-56 upset-win over the No. 12 Chapman University men’s basketball team on Wednesday night at the Hutton Sports Center, ending the Panthers 17-game win-streak. Chapman’s last loss came on Jan. 24, 2009 to the University of Dallas 62-59.

Over the weekend, the No. 18 Chapman University men’s basketball team held its opponents to 45 points per game en route to three victories and the championship of the 62nd annual Lee Fulmer Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Panthers are now 7-0, which is one win shy of their 8-0 start in 2005-06 which happens to be the last time that the Panthers won the Lee Fulmer Tournament which is hosted by the University of Redlands.
