Hamasaki earns second straight SCIAC Athlete of the Week award

ORANGE, Calif. - For the second straight week, Chapman University men's basketball player Taylor Hamasaki has been named SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week for the period of Dec. 31-Jan. 6. He becomes the second Panther to earn the award multiple times this season, joining Chapman volleyball player Val Geiger.

The junior guard continued his ascent up the SCIAC leaderboard, pouring in 38 points over two games last week to bring his season average to 18.4 points per game. Hamasaki was exceptional on New Year's Eve, scoring 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting in the Panthers' 86-82 loss to Ohio Northern. The 27-point effort came just two days after he scored a career-high 31 points. He added 13 points in a conference loss to Claremont-Mud-Scripps on Saturday night, but has tallied four games with 20+ points in this young season.

It is the sixth such award for a Chapman student-athlete during the 2013-14 academic year.
