Postseason basketball on the horizon for both men and women

ORANGE, Calif. – Lengthy winning streaks have catapulted the Chapman University men's and women's basketball teams into the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, marking the first time both programs have reached the tourney in the school's second year as a member of the conference.

Thursday, Feb. 27: Cal Lutheran at Chapman University

Winners of eight straight games, the Chapman University women's basketball team earned a share of the conference co-championship with a season-ending win over La Verne on Saturday. Holding the edge in the tiebreaker, the Panthers were awarded the top spot in the conference and will host Cal Lutheran on Thursday with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

There will be no shortage of intensity as the Panthers seek to avenge their loss to the Regals in last year's conference championship game. The two teams appear very well-matched as they split they have split their head-to-head matchups in each of the last two seasons.

Should the Panthers advance, they will play host to either Redlands or Claremont-M-S on Saturday. Tickets for both the semi-final and championship game will be $5 per person.

Friday, February 28: Chapman University at Pomona-Pitzer

A five-game winning streak to close out the regular season earned the Chapman University men's basketball team it's first-ever SCIAC Postseason Tournament berth and their first playoff appearance since 2011. The No. 3 seeded Panthers will travel to Pomona-Pitzer for a 7:30 p.m. showdown on Friday with the Sagehens.

While Pomona-Pitzer has controlled the series in recent history, the Panthers made a strong stand in the last regular season matchup, snapping a three-game losing streak by defeating the Sagehens 55-49 on Feb. 15.

Should the men advance, they would face either Cal Lutheran or Claremont-M-S in the championship game on Saturday. As the No. 3 seed, the Panthers would either host No. 4 Cal Lutheran or travel to No. 1 Claremont-M-S for the title matchup.
