Hamasaki reaches 1000 points, Panthers win fifth in a row

ORANGE, Calif. –The Chapman University men's basketball team extended its winning streak to five after defeating Bristol University 85-65 on Friday at the Hutton Sports Center.

Chapman senior G Taylor Hamasaki recorded a game-high of 23 points, giving him 1,001 points in his illustrious career. The offensive leader becomes just the sixteenth player in Chapman history to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau.

The Panthers jumped out early over the Bears to take a 15-5 lead five minutes into the game. Chapman then extended its lead over the Bears 21-13 with 9:51 on the clock. The Bears battled back narrowing the Panthers' lead 30-25 but back-to-back jump shots by Hamasaki at the 3:20 mark kept the Bears at a distance. The Panthers ended the half leading Bristol 45-35.

Chapman's high energy fast break offense led to a 10-2 run 10 minutes into the second half. Hamasaki scored eight points on the run including one jump shot and two back-to-back three pointers. Ultimately the Panther offense pulled away in the last ten minutes of the game, maintaining at least a ten point lead from that mark on.

Senior G Colin Zavrsnick recorded an additional 16 points in Friday's game, including three three-pointers and now only needs 22 points to reach the 1,000 point mark.

Chapman now 5-0 this season has won ten-straight regular-season games dating back to last year. The Panthers will play three of their next four games at home, beginning with La Sierra on Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
