Haslam named D3hoops West Region Rookie of the Year

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Cam Haslam made Chapman men's basketball history as the first player in school history to earn West Region Rookie of the Year honors from D3hoops.com. Haslam also earned All-West Region second team honors, becoming the second Panther in as many years to earn All-Region honors.

Haslam was the leading freshman scorer in all of Division III with 19.5 points per game. His second team nod made him the only freshman across every region in the nation to earn All-Region honors in addition to being the region's Rookie of the Year.

He scored 20-plus points in 13 games during his freshman campaign, including three with 30 points or more and putting up 40 at BYU-Hawaii in November. After missing the final game of the regular season, Haslam scored 21 points in both SCIAC Tournament games to lead the Panthers to a SCIAC Tournament title. He scored another 21 in the Panthers' narrow loss to Whitman in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to end the season.

The Seattle native was a 44 percent shooter this season and shot 44 percent from three-point range, which helped the Panthers lead the nation in three-point shooting percentage. He also shot 76 percent from the free throw line this year and hit two game-winning free throws with 2.4 seconds left in the SCIAC title game.

Haslam contributed three rebounds and just under two assists per game in addition to his 19.5 points. His scoring average ranks second in Chapman's Division III history, trailing only Josh Flynn-Brown's 20.5 points in 2006-07, and ranks seventh in Chapman's overall history.

The freshman etched his name into the record books several more times as he was just the seventh player in Chapman's history to score 40 points or more in a game. He also made all 12 of his free throw attempts at La Sierra on Dec. 21, making him only the fourth Panther in school history to sink all of his free throws with at least 12 attempts. Despite missing three games, his 467 total points this year rank fifth in Chapman's Division III history.

Haslam joins Justin Riley and Colin Zavrsnick as Chapman Panthers honored on D3hoops.com 's All-Region team although both won the award as seniors. His award comes after he was also named the SCIAC's Athlete of the Year.
