Men's basketball scores in triple digits in win over West Coast Baptist

ORANGE, Calif. –  Four players scored in double digits as the Chapman University men's basketball team defeated West Coast Baptist 100-62 on Friday. The Panthers (4-4) led wire-to-wire in their biggest offensive output of the season.

Sophomore Reed Nakakihara was one of three Panthers to score 18 points in the game. Nakakihara did so on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range. He also grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists and came away with a pair of steals.

Junior Tyler Green drained 6-of-9 three-point attempts for his second consecutive game with six three-pointers. Junior Rob Nelsen also added in 18 points with two rebound, two assists and two steals. Junior James Taylor was just shy of a double-double with 15 points and eight boards.

Chapman took an early lead 11-5 lead over West Coast Baptist five minutes into the first half and continued to extend its lead from there. At the 12-minute mark, Nakakihara drained a three to spark an 11-0 run and help the Panthers to a 22-9 lead.

The Panthers finished the half with a 46-25 lead with senior James Griffin leading the charge with three steals and four rebounds. Green also drained four of six triples in the first half for 12 of his 18 points.

Chapman continued to pour it on in the second half, making nine more triples and sinking 52 percent of their shots to pull away. Chapman forced 17 turnovers while turning it over just 10 times. The Panthers sank 16-of-31 three-point attempts and 54.5 percent overall.

Iman Vicente led the Eagles with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Chapman returns home on Monday, Dec. 19 for a 7 p.m. matchup with Whitworth at the Hutton Sports Center.
