Cohan's late bucket completes comeback win over Redlands

ORANGE, Calif. – Trailing 69-68 with four seconds on the clock, senior Josh Cohan found the basket to lead the Chapman University men's basketball team to a 70-69 victory over Redlands at the Hutton Sports Center. The Panthers overcame a 15-point deficit in the first half to earn the come-from-behind victory.

Trailing 39-32 to start the second half the Panthers opened up with a 10-2 run to take the lead 42-41 With 15 minutes left on the clock, sophomore Reed Nakakihara hit back-to back triples to give the Panthers the lead for the first time in the game.

The Bulldogs climbed their way back from Chapman's six-point lead around the 4-minute mark when Kyle Hussein drove to the basket on fast break to give Redlands the 58-57. The Panthers and Bulldogs went on to tie the game four more times as the clock winded down but the Panthers held off Redlands in the last possession to seal the win.

Redlands was on fire over the first 15 minutes of the first half, shooting over 60 percent in that time frame to build a 37-22 lead. The Panthers put a big dent in the deficit as junior Tyler Green drained two threes to help fuel an 11-2 run to close the first half and cut the deficit down to 39-33 going into the locker rooms.

As the Panther opened up with the second half with a 10-2 run, Chapman outscored Redlands 21-4 over an 11-minute span.

Green scored all of his 15 points in the first half and Nakakihara scored a team-high 17 for Chapman. Senior James Taylor ran the boards for Chapman with eight rebounds while also picking up 14 points for the Panthers. Sophomore Jeff Kenney score nine points off the bench, including a big four-point play with just over seven minutes left.

Chapman will travel to Cal Lutheran for their next game against Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 7 and returns home on Jan. 19 to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
