Cohan has career night in loss to CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's basketball couldn't recover from an off-shooting night in a 62-44 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Senior Josh Cohan had the best game of his career with career-bests in points and rebounds.

Cohan was just shy of a double-double with a career-high of 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go along with a career-best of nine rebounds. Cohan also led the Panthers (7-8, 2-4 SCIAC) with three assists. Junior Tyler Green was the only other Panther in double figures with 11 points.

While Cohan proved efficient with his shots, the Panthers struggled as a team. Chapman shot just 28.3 percent on the night and were just 3-of-20 from three-point range. SCIAC-leading and nationally-ranked CMS shot 49 percent in the game and 31.3 percent from long range.

Chapman took the initial lead after Cohan's first bucket was followed by a three from Green. Junior Luke Selway's free throws made it 7-5 Chapman but CMS went on a 9-0 run to take the lead and never gave it back. After trailing, 29-20 at halftime, the Panthers came as close as three in the second half when Green drove all the way to the rim to make it 38-35 with 10:19 to go.

CMS' Patrick Myers drained a three-pointer on the next trip down the floor to spark a quick 9-0 run to push the lead back to 12 points. Myers had nine points off the bench but the Stags were led by 11 points each from Michael Scarlett and Scott Lynds.

Chapman returns home on Saturday to take on Whittier at 4 p.m. The game will be the second of a Chapman-Whittier doubleheader with the women's game tipping off at 2 p.m.
