Taylor posts 18 in loss to Pomona

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University men's basketball team fell 62-49 to Pomona-Pitzer Thursday night at the Hutton Sports Center. Junior James Taylor led the Panthers with 18 points.

Pomona-Pitzer's Micah Elan drained a three-pointer that led to a 10-0 run just before the half. This run led the Sagehens to a 28-20 lead going into halftime.

Chapman pulled within seven points late in the second half, but Pomona-Pitzer regained control in the remaining minutes of the game to earn the season sweep.

Taylor led the Panther offense, shooting 9-of-15 and scoring 18 points. The junior also tallied 6 rebounds and one steal to cap off his night. Junior Luke Selway tied his career-high eight points off the bench, adding to the Panther total. Selway also recorded a rebound and an assist. Sophomore Reed Nakakihara also put up eight points, while tallying four rebounds and two assists.

Elan led the Sagehens with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals, adding to his breakout freshman season.

The Panthers will host Caltech on Saturday, Feb 9 at 7 p.m. Chapman will then take its next two games to the road before returning home for 'Senior Night' on Tuesday, Feb 21 at 7 p.m.
