Men's basketball falls on Senior Night

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University men's basketball team fell 60-49 to Occidental on Senior Night at the Hutton Sports Center. Seniors James Griffin and Josh Cohan combined for 14 points and 14 rebounds in their final game as Panthers.

Cohan has just shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds and junior James Taylor shot 4-for-5 with a pair of free throws to score 10 points with four rebounds. Junior Luke Selway pitched in nine points off the bench.

Chapman jumped out to an early lead and led by as many as nine points with about five minutes to go in the first half. Cohan scored eight of his 10 in the opening half and Selway scored six points to lead Chapman to a 31-26 lead at halftime.

The Panthers shot 58.3 percent in the half to overcome 10 turnovers an build the five-point lead. However, the Tigers held Chapman to just 28.6 percent shooting in the second half and just 1-of-14 shooting from three-point range. Occidental shot 43.3 percent in the second half to quickly erase the Panthers' lead. A 7-0 run for Oxy gave the visitors the lead for good with just under 12 minutes left in the game.

The lead continued to grow as the Tigers, led by 18 points from Andrew Johnson, pulled away down the stretch for the season-ending win.

Chapman finished its 2016-17 season with the loss at 10-15 overall and 5-11 in the SCIAC. Cohan and Griffin left the game with under a minute left to a standing ovation.
