Team and individuals awarded for academic excellence

Six student-athletes and the Chapman University basketball team earned academic recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches. As a team, the Panthers earned the NABC’s Team Academic Excellence Award while the six student-athletes earned a spot in the NABC Honors Court.

Record number of student-athletes achieve academic distinction

Chapman University student-athletes raised the bar with a record number of 220 SCIAC All-Academic selections for the 2017-18 school year. This year marks the first time in Chapman’s six-year history in the SCIAC that more than 200 Panthers were included on the All-Academic teams.

Our week-long celebration continues with All-SCIAC selection Rob Nelsen from the men's basketball team. In addition to being a team captain, Rob has been in ROTC for four years with a litany of volunteer activities.

The Chapman University men’s basketball team had three players recognized on the All-SCIAC teams, announced by the conference office on Friday. Senior Rob Nelsen earned a spot on the All-SCIAC First Team, fellow senior Luke Selway was honored on the Second Team and Reed Smith was recognized as the Newcomer of the Year.

Men's basketball falls to CMS in SCIAC semis

The Chapman University men’s basketball team’s season came to an end in the semifinals of the SCIAC Tournament with an 83-72 loss to top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday. SCIAC Newcomer of the Year Reed Smith led the Panthers (17-9) with 17 points.

The Chapman University men’s basketball team ended the regular season with a No. 4 spot in the SCIAC rankings. The Panthers (17-8, 10-6 SCIAC) head to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (16-7, 14-1 SCIAC) to take on the No. 1 seed Stags.

The Chapman University men’s basketball team rolled past La Verne 72-57 this afternoon to earn a spot in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. In the final home game of his career, senior Rob Nelsen led the Panthers with a career-high 24 points.

Men’s basketball completes come-from-behind win over Whittier

The Chapman University men’s basketball team continues to sit alone in the No. 4 spot in the SCIAC standings after a thrilling 77-74 victory over Whittier. With the Poets just one game behind the Panthers prior to tonight, Chapman had to win to stay alone in fourth place. Chapman completed the come-from-behind win with the help of junior Josh Mendoza, who led the Panthers with 14 points.

Three-point shooting leads men's basketball to third straight win

The Chapman University men's basketball knocked down 19 three-pointers to fuel a 98-56 win over visiting Cal Lutheran. The Panthers (15-6, 8-4 SCIAC) won for the third game in a row behind 20-point efforts from freshman Reed Smith and junior Reed Nakakihara.

The Chapman University men’s basketball team dropped its third in a row tonight as they raced Pomona-Pitzer for the No. 3 spot in the SCIAC. The Sagehens (8-10, 6-3 SCIAC) narrowly edged out the Panthers (12-6, 5-4 SCIAC), taking the 61-58 victory.

Freshman Reed Smith scored a season-best 20 points but the Chapman University men?s basketball team fell 70-60 to visiting Occidental on Wednesday. Smith was one of three Panther starters in double figures.

The Chapman University men’s basketball team (12-4, 5-2 SCIAC) lost 70-63 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (6-7, 4-1 SCIAC) earlier this afternoon in the first game of a double header. Senior Rob Nelsen led the scoring for the Panthers, tallying 17 points and seven rebounds in the narrow loss.

Senior Rob Nelsen scored 20 points as the Chapman University men’s basketball team rolled to an 85-71 win over Caltech on Monday. The Panthers (11-3, 4-1 SCIAC) won their third game in a row to stay near the top of the SCIAC standings.

The Chapman University men’s basketball team improved to 2-1 in SCIAC play after defeating Redlands 82-73 on Wednesday night. Five Panthers scored double digits tonight, but it was senior Rob Nelsen who led the way with 22 points.

A double-double from senior Luke Selway and 19 points from freshman Reed Smith led the Chapman University men’s basketball team to an 80-73 victory over visiting Lewis & Clark on Thursday. The win improved Chapman to 8-2 this season as it closes out its 2017 and its non-conference slate.

Men’s basketball drops first game of the season

The Chapman University men’s basketball team dropped a hard-fought game to their former Division III independent rivals UC Santa Cruz on Friday night. The Panthers, led by seniors Rob Nelsen and Luke Selway, fell as the Banana Slugs had a late push to take the game 72-67.
