Light goes out on Chapman in narrow defeat

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Despite four players scoring within eight shots of par - a season best - the Chapman University men's golf team fell to host Pomona-Pitzer Colleges by a score of 318-320 on Tuesday afternoon. The match was shortened due to darkness so most scores were pro-rated over the final holes.

Despite the loss, Chapman (2-3) had several players shoot their best scores of the season, led by junior Van Pierce who shot a four-over 78. Pierce birdied two of the last three holes on the front nine and was even at the turn. He currently leads the Panthers with a 78.3 average score per 18 holes.

Freshman Anthony DeFrancis also shot a season-best five-over 79. Freshman Jordan Siao and senior Matt Deatherage came in at 81 and 82, respectively.
