Lungo and Lazare lead Chapman to fifth-place finish at Master's Invite

ORANGE, Calif. – Career-best performances from Lyon Lazare and Chris Lungo carried the Chapman University men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Master's College Spring Invitational at Robinson Ranch Golf Club on Tuesday. Fellow SCIAC-member Cal Lutheran led the 12-team field to capture the title in a tournament that featured three rounds of golf over two days.

Lungo, who finished the tournament tied for sixth with teammate Lazare and St. Thomas' Ryan Carter, posted a career-best, 2-under 70 in the opening round on Monday. The senior's first round performance, which featured five birdies including three on the front nine, tied for the second lowest score in the tournament with individual title winner Mikey McGinn of Cal Lutheran.

Lungo shot a 73 in the second round to begin Tuesday in a three-way tie for the lead, but shot a 6-over 78, dropping to sixth place.

Fellow senior Lazare played a consistent three rounds, contributing a 2-over 74 on Monday morning before posting a career-best even-par 72 in the second round. Lazare, who shot a 2-under on the back nine, finished with the second lowest score of the round. On Tuesday, the Villa Park native shot a 3-over 75 to finish with a three-round total of 221.

Junior Josh Hurst joined the group of Panthers to shoot an even-par round in the tournament, contributing a 72 in the afternoon round on Monday. Rounding out Chapman's top five were junior Rohan Bahri, whose lowest round of the tournament was a 4-over 76 in the opening round and senior Sean Dusselier, who posted a 6-over 78 in the first round.
