Pair of Panthers finish in top 15, lead Chapman to ninth place

ORANGE, Calif.­­­­­­ – ­­­­­­­­­­­­­The No. 24 Chapman University men's golf team finished ninth in the 18-team West Cup March 24-25 at the Bear Creek Golf Club. The Panthers were led by freshman Bryan Wise and senior Josh Hurst, who each finished in the top 15 in three rounds of scoring.

Wise who finished in seventh place at 10-over-par, was steady all weekend by carding a 226 (75-76-75) on the par-72 course. The freshman has finished in the top 20 in each of Chapman's four tournaments this season, with two top-10 finishes, including one first-place finish.

Hurst tied for second in birdies by recording 10 over the weekend en route to his first top-15 finish this season shooting a 229 (76-76-77), which was good enough for an 11th-place tie.

The Panthers recorded 28 birdies as a team, which tied them for fifth in a tournament that featured seven nationally-ranked teams.

With the ninth-place finish, the Panthers who finished with a total score of 947 (320-310-317) remained in the Division III Top-25 for the eighth-straight week.

Next Chapman will head to Empire Lakes for the SCIAC No. 2 Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6.
