Men's golf places fifth at SCIAC Championships

BEAUMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team placed fifth in the eight-team SCIAC Men's Championship at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont this week. The Panthers shot a 964 over three rounds Sunday through Tuesday, finishing 61 strokes back of winner Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Chapman went into the tournament as the No. 5 seed and ranked No. 28 in Division III.

In his final tournament as a Panther, senior Rohan Bahri was one the team's top two golfers, finished tied for 19th by carding a 241 (81-78-82) on the par-72 course. Bahri finished with 27 pars over the three days, and earned his seventh top-20 finish of his senior campaign.

Junior Steven Meyer also finished tied for 19th (79-83-79). Over the course of the 46-man tournament, Meyer fired off six birdies, which was good enough for a 10th-place tie with seven other golfers including junior teammate Giovanni Chiappano, who finished tied for 33rd with a 249 (75-81-93). Chiappano had the single best round for the Panthers over the three-day event, shooting a 75 (3-over) on Sunday.

Senior Josh Hurst shot a 79 and a 78 on the first two days respectively, but as the wind swirled throughout the final round at Oak Valley, Hurst shot a 90 to give him a 247 final score and a 30th place finish in his final match as a Panther. Freshman Bryan Wise placed just ahead of Hurst with a three-round total 246 (79-80-87).

The Panthers finished the season in fifth place in the SCIAC final standings and No. 34 in the NCAA Division III rankings according to Golfstat.com.
