Rookie leads men's golf to sixth place finish in fall tournament
HEMET, Calif. – Freshman Griffin Tso tied for seventh to lead the Chapman University golf team at the California State Intercollegiate. The Panthers placed sixth as a team but showed improvement in each round of the tournament carding a team total of 912 (+48).
In his Panther debut, Tso carded a team-best of 220 (+4), scoring a team low 70 (-2) in the second round of the three day tournament.
Not far behind, finishing tied for 14th, was junior Bryan Wise. The junior led Chapman on the 72-par course in round one shooting 70 (-2) and tallied 77 in the second and third rounds for a final score of 224 (+8).
Junior Chuck Pedone finished 26th for Chapman improving his score in round two by nine strokes to earn a final score of 231 (+15). Teammate sophomore Kyle John consistently improved each day of the tournament beginning with an 81 (+9) on round one to recording a 73 (+1) in the third round for a final card of 237 (+16).
Returning to the leader board representing the SCIAC was Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finishing first with a final score of 874 (+10), while Cal Lutheran rounded out the top-four with a combined team score of 906 (+44) in the tournament.
The Panthers will return to the green to host Hope International at Tustin Ranch on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
