Tso in eighth, men's golf in seventh after day one at SCIAC Championships

BEAUMONT, Calif. – Freshman Griffin Tso continued his recent hot streak to lead the Chapman University men's golf team on day one of the SCIAC Championships. The Panthers finished the day in seventh with an 18-over par score of 306 but are just 9 strokes back of second place in a tight field.

Tso paced the Panthers with a 74 (+2) on the first day at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif. He tied for eighth after the first of three rounds at the championship tournament. Junior Chuck Pedone fired a 76 (+4) to tie for 18th after day one. Tso is nine shots back of the leader. Redlands' John McCord has a five-shot lead on everyone as he came into the clubhouse seven-under par.

Junior Bryan Wise shot a 6-over 78 and is 23rd on the leaderboard. Freshman Dallas Haun matched Wise's card to complete Chapman's scoring in the first round.

With McCord's outstanding round and another golfer finishing under par, Redlands jumped out to an 11-shot lead on the team leaderboard. The Bulldogs were two-under par with a 286 on the first day. The field after Redlands is tight with all teams within nine shots from Cal Lutheran in second place at nine-over to Chapman in seventh at 18-over par.

The championship event continues tomorrow with the final round being played on Tuesday.
