Keating finishes off record-breaking debut, men's golf takes second

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team matched its score from round one to round day to set a new 36-hole school record and finished in second at the CA State Invitational. The Panthers lowered the previous school record by 23 strokes with a tournament score of 570 (-6) and finished ahead of every SCIAC team in the 12-team field.

Chapman shot 285 (-3) as a team for the second day in a row. Freshman Avery Keating set an individual school record with the best 36-hole tournament in school history. He matched his two-under par 70 from yesterday to finish tournament four-under par with a 140. He made his Panther debut by breaking teammate Griffin Tso's school record by a single stroke. Keating took fourth individually.

Tso tied for 20th but turned in another card with even par to finish even for the tournament. Junior Dallas Haun was even today to finish one-under in the tournament. He tied with freshman Brody Hval for 15th as Hval shot one-under par today after carding a 72 yesterday.

Despite leading a tight field after day one, Ottowa University shot a 279 (-9) today to capture the team title by a stroke over the Panthers. Chapman took second with the hosts Cal Lutheran taking third and Arizona Christian taking fourth.

The Panthers continue their fall season in a dual with Whittier on Sep. 27.
