Hval's low round highlights first fall tournament

ORANGE, Calif. – Sophomore Brody Hval equaled the lowest round and lowest two-round score in school history to lead the Chapman University men's golf team to a third-place finish at the CA State Intercollegiate. The Panthers turned in two solid rounds in a row to place third among the 12 teams at the tournament.

On Tuesday, Hval leaped up the leaderboard with the low round of the day and the tournament. Despite reaching just six greens in regulation, Hval turned in a card with a 67 (-5) to tie for the lowest round of the tournament and the lowest round in school history. His low round on Tuesday combined with his one-over par 73 on Monday to put him four-under par for the tournament with a 140, tying him for another school record.

The Panthers were one of five teams to shoot a 289 (+1) on Monday, placing them in a third place logjam. On Tuesday, Chapman's team score of 293 (+5) was tied for third-best of the day to keep them in third place with Cal Lutheran. Chapman's two-day total of 582 (+6) is the second-best two-round score in school history, trailing only last year's performance at the same tournament.

Junior Ricky Hoefert started the tournament two-under par with a 70 on Monday but was three-over with a 75 on Tuesday to finish in 13th overall with a 145 (+1). Senior Brady Lastinger was also three-over on Tuesday with a 75 after shooting an even par on Monday to take 17th with a three-over 147.

Sophomore Avery Keating shot a 150 (+6) to round out the Panthers' scoring in the tournament and take 36th.

Chapman's fall season continues with a dual against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sep. 28 at Los Serranos Golf Club.
