Men's golf takes 11th at West Cup

ORANGE, Calif. – Sophomore Avery Keating finished the last round at par to lead the Chapman University men's golf team to an 11th-place finish at the West Cup. After a rough opening round the Panthers rebounded to climb four spots on the team leaderboard.

The first of two rounds on Monday put the Panthers in a bit of a hole after shooting a 317 (+33). Chapman shaved nine strokes off its team score in the afternoon round with a 308 (+24) and finished on Tuesday with a 309 (+25) to stay in 11th.

Keating led the late surge with Panthers' low round in both the second and third rounds. His final 18 holes were his best with an even par 71 to move up to 16th overall on the individual leaderboard. He started the tournament with an 80 (+9) and followed that with an afternoon 74 (+3), finishing 12-over par in the 72 -hole tournament.

Senior Griffin Tso's six-over 77 led Chapman in the first round, followed by sophomore Brody Hval's 79 (+8). Tso finished the tournament with 231 (+18) in a tie for 34th and Hval shot an 81 in back-to-back rounds to finish with a 241 (+28).

Junior Ricky Hoefert recovered from an opening round 83 (+12) with a 78 (+7) in back-to-back rounds to finish in 53rd with a 239 (+26) and junior Sian Rogers finished the tournament with a 255 (+42).

The Panthers have two tournaments left on the schedule at SCIAC #2 on April 6-7 and at the SCIAC Championships April 18-20.
