Rogers aces a hole, Hoefert in fifth on first day of SCIAC Championships

PASADENA, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team sits in fifth place after the first day of the SCIAC Championships held at Brookside Golf Club. The Panthers shot a team score of 293 (+13) and sit just two strokes behind fourth-place Redlands.

Junior Ricky Hoefert jumped out of the gates strong, leading the pack through the front nine after shooting a 32 (-3) with three birdies. He currently sits in fifth place overall after a season-best first-round score of 69 (-1).

Sophomore Brody Hval is tied for 17th place overall with five other golfers after shooting a 74 (+4) on the first day. He birdied on the sixth hole to finish 36 (+1) on the front nine but added three strokes on the back nine.

Senior Griffin Tso and sophomore Avery Keating sit just one stroke back from Keating tied for 23rd place overall at five-over par.  

Junior Sian Rogers bounced back from a triple bogey on the 11th hole to hit a hole-in-one on the par-3 12th hole to earn the eagle. He finished at six-over par and is currently tied for 28th place overall. Senior Zach Gellens finished the first round with an 86 (+16).

The Panthers return to Brookside Golf Course tomorrow, April 19 at 8 a.m. for the second round of the championships.
