Lu leads men's golf in spring debut

ORANGE, Calif. – In his Chapman debut, freshman Bradley Lu led the Chapman University men's golf team at its first tournament of the spring. Four SCIAC teams met at Tukwet Canyon on Saturday and played through the rain at Tustin Ranch on Sunday.

Lu shot a 2-under 70 on Sunday's round at Tustin Ranch to take third overall in the two-day event. He shot an 80 (+8) in the first round at Tukwet Canyon to finish six-over par with a 150. Lu jumped eight spots on the leaderboard with his strong second round.

Senior Ricky Hoefert finished 11th with an 11-over 155 through the two rounds. He led the Panthers with a 78 (+6) on day one and finished with a 5-over 77 on day two. Freshman Will Ellegard was just one stroke behind Hoefert after a strong second round. He over came a tough 83 (+11) at Tukwet Canyon with a one-over 73 at Tustin Ranch.

Junior Brody Hval also shaved off 10 strokes, shooting an 85 on day one and a 75 on day two to take 16th with a 160 (+16). Senior Sian Rogers saw a big improvement on the Panthers home course as well, matching Hval's 85 on the first day and following it up with a 76 at Tustin Ranch, to take 19th.

The Panthers got a preview of the host course for their next tournament. Chapman will join the rest of the conference at Tukwet Canyon Feb. 28-29 for SCIAC #1.
