Panthers rebound for overtime win

ORANGE, Calif. -  The Chapman University men's soccer team rebounded in more ways than one on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers defeated visiting Willamette University (Ore.) 2-1 in overtime at Wilson Field thanks to a loose ball rebound that junior F Dean Sewitz knocked in with four seconds remaining in the first OT period.

Chapman (2-1) also rebounded by overcoming a late goal in regulation by Willamette which erased a 1-0 lead and forced the overtime frame in the 88th minute.

All of the scoring came late in the game as junior MF Jeff Shah staked Chapman to a 1-0 lead with his first goal of the season in the 71st minute. The scoring pass came off the right side from freshman F Chris Duran. Willamette (1-3) responded with just two minutes to go in the second half with a goal from F Erik Kaufman to tie the game and force overtime.

The Bearcats appeared to carry the momentum into the first overtime period, out-shooting Chapman 4-1, yet at 99:56, Sewitz picked up the loose ball and found the back of the net to clinch the victory.

The Panthers improved to 2-0 at home this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Jimmy Adranly made three saves for Chapman in the win.
