Opportunistic Panthers win fifth straight

ORANGE, Calif. -  The Chapman University men's soccer team made the most of its opportunities on Wednesday evening. The Panthers took just three shots - all in the first half - scoring on their first two, and held on to defeat visiting Vanguard University 2-1 at Wilson Field. The win was Chapman's fifth in a row marking its longest winning streak since 2001.

Sophomore M Dalton Sweaney scored a goal for the third consecutive game and then assisted junior F Anthony Keto on the game-winner - all in the first 15 minutes of the game for Chapman (6-1). The Panthers' defense made the goals stand up despite being out-shot 13-3 in the game. The Lions also earned a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Vanguard (1-3-1) pulled within one with a goal in the 24th minute from Albert Quinones. But sophomore GK Tyler Hadzinsky made three saves for the Panthers while shutting out the Lions in the second half.

Chapman's 6-1 start is the best since the program began play in Division III in 1994.
