Shutout ends Panthers five-game winning streak

ORANGE, Calif. - After getting of to its best start since 1994, the Chapman University men's soccer teams' five-game winning streak came to an end Friday night as visiting Hope International University defeated the Panthers 1-0 at Wilson Field.

The Panthers were opportunistic in their win Wednesday night but it was Hope (6-0-1) that took advantage of its few chances on Friday. Chapman (6-2) controlled the tempo for much of the game out-shooting Hope International 14-4. However, senior D Matt Sanger scored the only goal of the game coming off a corner kick by freshman M Billy Monnier in the 43rd minute giving Hope International the eventual game-winning goal.

The Panthers had several chances late in the second half but were unable to get the tying goal past the Royals' junior GK Matt Fike who had four saves in the game.

Prior to Friday's loss, the Panthers had won seven straight home games dating back to last season.
