Second half scoring outburst gives Chapman 4-0 win

ORANGE, Calif. - Holding on to a narrow 1-0 lead, the Chapman University men's soccer team scored three quick goals to begin the second half en route to a 4-0 win over San Diego Christian College on Friday afternoon at Wilson Field.

With just over two minutes gone by in the first half, senior M Alex Sewitz got loose in front of the Hawks' goal and scored with a great individual move to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead and it looked as if Chapman would run away with the game early. Instead, the Hawks hung tight for the remainder of the first half despite Chapman controlling the tempo.

Unable to capitalize on its opportunities in the first half, Chapman (6-1-2) responded by scoring early and often in the second half to put the game out of reach. Senior M Jeff Shah scored in the 48th minute from an assist by senior F Dean Sewitz. Two minutes later Dean Sewitz scored giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead. He then capped off the Panthers' scoring with a goal from the right side on an assist by Alex Sewitz.

San Diego Christian (3-3) has now lost three straight games after starting the year with a 3-0 record. Freshman GK Alex Cozzi had three saves in the loss.

Chapman out-shot the Hawks 17-5, including a 9-1 advantage in the first half.  With the win, the Panthers are off to their best home start since 2006 with a 4-0 record.
