Chapman men play to scoreless draw against Cal Lu

ORANGE, Calif. – A tug-o-war men's soccer match between West Region rivals Chapman University and visiting Cal Lutheran University ended in a 0-0 draw on Monday night at Wilson Field. It was the first overtime game for the Panthers this season as they fell to 1-0-1 at home in 2010.

Chapman (4-4-1) controlled the pace of play in the first half, out-shooting Cal Lutheran 10-3, in addition to a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. It was a different story in the second half where the Kingsmen rallied to make it a more even-sided affair.

Both teams had late scoring opportunities in regulation, but the goalkeeping came up big in all cases. For Cal Lutheran (1-3-1), senior GK Chris Holm made nine saves in the game, including two in overtime. Chapman senior GK Tyler Hadzinsky made four of his five saves from the second half on. Both keepers earned the shutout after 110 scoreless minutes of play. For Hadzinsky it was his second shutout of the season and lowered his season goals-against average to 0.73.

In overtime, the advantage again favored Chapman, who out-shot the Kingsmen 5-1 in extra time, but could not find the back of the net.

The tie puts Chapman's record against West Region opponents at 3-1-1. The Panthers will play Orange County rival Hope International University in Fullerton on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
