Ilduhso's double OT goal gives Chapman 1-0 win over rival Santa Cruz

ORANGE, Calif. – A goal by freshman M Gunnar Ildhuso at the 7:30 mark of the second overtime gave the Chapman University men's soccer team a 1-0 double overtime win over rival U.C. Santa Cruz on Friday night at Wilson Field, keeping Chapman's postseason hopes alive.

Ilduhso scored the game-winning goal – his first-career goal - on an open net as Santa Cruz goalie Matt Pereira was out of the box after attempting to chase down the ball which had ricocheted off his hands after a Chapman pass attempt. Ilduhso then settled the ball on the left wing and booted a high-arcing shot over the head of a Banana Slugs' defender and into the right corner of the goal.

Chapman (9-7-2) ended a three-game losing streak against Santa Cruz (9-4-3) which dated back to 2008 and avenged last season's 1-0 overtime loss at Wilson Field. Once again the game was heated as five yellow cards were issued.

The Banana Slugs who came into the game as the No. 4-ranked team in the West Region, outshot the Panthers 22-17 including a 16-7 advantage in the second half and overtime. Senior goalie Tyler Hadzinsky who had career-high 10 saves against Bethesda Christian last game, tied that mark on Friday.
