Four first half goals give Chapman 5-0 win over Occidental

ORANGE, Calif. – Once again, the Chapman University men's soccer team didn't waste any time scoring its first goal of the game. Junior F Mauricio Alfonso scored just 4:37 into the game and the team scored four goals in the first half as Chapman ran away with a 5-0 win over Occidental College on Wednesday night at Wilson Field.

Alfonso scored on a direct kick which he bent around the defense and into the left side of the net just out of the reach of diving Occidental senior GK Andrew Larkin. In the 21st minute, Alfonso assisted sophomore M Brent Hellesen with a pass from the left wing which Hellesen put in from just in front of the net to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Chapman (3-0) then pushed its lead to 3-0 on Alfonso's second goal of the game in the 29th minute off an assist from sophomore F Nick Echeverry. In three games, Alfonso now leads the team with three goals and is tied with two assists while Echeverry has two goals and two assists. Just before halftime, the Panthers stretched their lead to 4-0 on a breakaway goal by Echeverry who got in front of the Tigers' defense and put in the goal off the pass from sophomore M Devon Schmidt
