Claremont eliminates Chapman in first round of NCAA Championships

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team was blanked 1-0 by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship on Saturday night at Farquhar Field on the campus of the University of Redlands. Claremont (14-5-2) advances to play host Redlands on Sunday.

In the first matchup between these teams this season, Claremont controlled the play throughout, outshooting Chapman 17-6 on the night. Claremont got its lone score of the game in the first half at the 16:22 mark on a goal by senior F Eric Bean off an assist from senior D Sam Ullman.

Chapman (11-5-3) had its best scoring opportunities come in the second half with both of its shots on goal only to come up empty as Claremont senior GK Frederick Doar came up with two of his three saves on the night.

Chapman senior M Brett Richardson and junior F Mauricio Alfonso combined for four of the team's six shots. Senior GK Jimmy Adranly had four saves for Chapman.
