Carrillo earns 150th career win in Chapman's first-ever SCIAC match

ORANGE, Calif. –  A four-goal second half broke the game open as the Chapman University men's soccer team earned a 5-0 win over Whittier College on Wednesday night at Wilson Field to give Chapman its first-ever conference win in SCIAC across all sports. With the win, Chapman head coach Eddie Carrillo notched the 150th win of his career, all at Chapman.

For much of the match, Chapman held a slim one-goal lead after senior F Mauricio Alfonso scored off a direct kick in the 28th minute of the first half. Chapman (2-1, 1-0) maintained a 1-0 lead until junior M Nick Velasquez gave the team some breathing room with a goal in the 63rd minute off an assist from sophomore M Duncan Capriotti. The sophomore had two assists on the evening.

Whittier (1-4, 0-2) had numerous scoring opportunities all night, attempting 17 shots, five of which were saved by Chapman freshman GK Dean Meltz. Whittier put six shots on goal from six different players. Both junior D Francis Maxwell and senior F Srdan Jovanovic attempted four shots for Whittier.

After Velasquez's goal, Chapman broke the game open with back-to-back goals by senior M Quinn Murray and freshman M Boston Kimmel to take a 4-0 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the game. Murray's goal came from well outside the box and narrowly missed the outstretched hands of Whittier senior GK David Diaz before settling into the net.

To cap off the scoring, senior D Francesco Onorati scored off a corner kick by freshman M Gabe Recht-Appel.
