First place Pomona-Pitzer shuts out Chapman 2-0

ORANGE, Calif. –  Similar to the teams match in September, Pomona-Pitzer held the Chapman University men's soccer team scoreless en route to a 2-0 win on Wednesday night at Wilson Field.  Chapman has now dropped three of its last four matches and is in sixth place in the SCIAC while Pomona-Pitzer has won six in a row and sits atop the conference standings.

Junior M Drew Lind scored both of the Pomona-Pitzer (9-4-1, 8-2-1) goals on the night, the first coming in the eighth minute off an assist from sophomore F Nathan Shekita. With two goals, Lind doubled his season total. Pomona-Pitzer's defense held Chapman to just four shots in the first half and seven in the game, two of which were on goal.

The game remained at 1-0 until Lind scored his second goal of the match. This time he scored off a shot that bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net in the 73rd minute off an assist from sophomore M Arash Mahboubi which secured the win for Pomona-Pitzer.

Chapman (5-7-1, 4-5-1) senior F Mauricio Alfonso had a team-high three shots with one shot on goal while sophomore D Anthony Fernandez attempted two shots and put one on goal. Senior GK Rollie Thayer recorded his third shutout of the season for Pomona-Pitzer and had two saves while Chapman freshman GK Dean Meltz also recorded two saves.

Chapman returns to play on Saturday, Oct. 13 on the road against Redlands at 7 p.m. The team's next home game is on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. against Caltech.
