Echeverry's OT winner helps Panthers snap skid

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior F Nick Echeverry scored the game-winning goal eight minutes into the golden goal overtime to give the Chapman University men's soccer team a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over visiting SCIAC rival University of Redlands at Wilson Field on Saturday afternoon. It was Echeverry's team-leading fifth goal of the season and helped snap Chapman's three-game winless streak.

With Chapman (4-4-1 overall, 2-3-1 SCIAC) trailing 3-2 in the second half, junior D Anthony Fernandez scored his first career goal in the 74th minute to knot it at three and send the game eventually into overtime.

The Panthers had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 30 minutes thanks to goals from freshman M Marco Saglimbeni (25') and senior M Nick Velasquez (30'). However, Redlands (4-2 overall, 4-2 SCIAC) rallied for three consecutive goals, including two to finish the half and tie it at two going into the intermission.

Matej Kustura gave Redlands the lead in the 55th minute with a goal from Charles Izydorek before Chapman rallied back 19 minutes later.

Chapman out-shot Redlands 23-13 in the game, including a 14-7 advantage from the second half on. Both goalkeepers kept busy with big saves. Panthers' sophomore GK Nick Berardi made six saves and improved his record to 3-2. Redlands' GK Andreas Silva made eight saves in the loss.

Chapman will play its next two SCIAC matches on the road, traveling to Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday and Occidental on Saturday.
