Men's soccer to make first SCIAC postseason appearance Wednesday

ORANGE, Calif. – A late-season surge led the Chapman University men's soccer team up the conference standings to its first-ever SCIAC Postseason Tournament berth. The Panthers won eight of their final 11 matches to secure the fourth spot in the tournament, setting up a Wednesday match against the first-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Chapman (11-7-2 overall, 9-6-1 SCIAC) is making its first postseason appearance since 2011, when it matched up with the Stags in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The Panthers took the loss in the 1-0 match, the first of its five straight losses to the Stags.

The Panthers missed an opportunity to avoid the unfavorable matchup against the Stags, losing to Redlands, 3-1 on Saturday to fall to fourth place in the conference.

The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to face the winner of the Whittier-Cal Lutheran match in a showdown for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament Championship on Saturday.
