Chapman plays to double-overtime draw with UCSC

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team fought into double overtime with UC Santa Cruz to draw a 0-0 score for the Panthers and Banana Slugs on Friday night at Wilson Field. The Panthers move to 1-0-1 overall with tonight's draw.

Junior M Marco Saglimbeni's header in the 28th minute to almost put Chapman ahead but UC Santa Cruz's junior GK Connor Andreson diving snag kept the Panthers from scoring, keeping the score 0-0 at the end of the first.

With a man-up advantage in the second half junior M Jake Sarmiento took an outside shot from the 15-yard line but an unfavorable offside call against the Panthers prevented Chapman from taking the lead. The Panthers then went double-overtime with the Banana Slugs taking five shots on goal but ultimately came up just shy.

Chapman out-shot UC Santa Cruz 19-8 with senior GK Nick Berardi leading the Panther defense with four saves in 110 minutes played for his second shutout of the season.

Chapman will begin SCIAC play on Monday, Sept. 7 beginning with Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m.
