Men's soccer suffers 2-0 loss to Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team fired off 16 shots but was held off the board in a 2-0 loss to SCIAC foe Cal Lutheran on Saturday. Junior Kai Howe and sophomore Justo Garcia led the Panther attack with four shots each.

The Kingsmen (3-1, 2-0 SCIAC) need just one shot in the first half to take a 1-0 lead as Brandon Kearney lofted a shot just under the cross bar after being played behind the defense in the 32nd minute. Christian Guzman put the Kingsmen up 2-0 when he finished a close opportunity in the 73rd minute.

Chapman shot seven times in the first half and nine more times in the second half but were unable to put one in the net. The Panthers (0-2-1, 0-1-1 SCIAC) took 11 corner kicks as they spent most of the second half in the attacking end. Sophomore Jarod Matteoni nearly drove in a header off a corner kick but his shot sailed just above the crossbar.

The Panthers have a quick turnaround as they look for their first win of the season tomorrow when they host Colorado College at 1 p.m.
