Trio of Panthers named SCIAC Athletes of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University recognizes three student-athletes that have been awarded SCIAC athletes of the week in their respective sports. Senior Sean Augustine gets the nod for men's soccer, sophomore Elly Aronson for women's soccer, and junior Lindsey Johnson earns the award for women's volleyball.

Augustine kept a clean sheet for the week, posting two shutouts. The Anaheim native recorded two saves against La Verne, including one in the final minutes of the match to keep the lead for the Panthers. This past weekend against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the senior made five saves in another 1-0 win. The two shutouts moved both Chapman and Augustine to the top of the SCIAC rankings.

The women's soccer team posted both a win and a loss this week, but Aronson made her presence known in the win against Pomona-Pitzer. The Gig Harbor, Wash. native scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to give the Panthers their first SCIAC win of the year. The sophomore also tallied an assist on their first goal of the match.

Johnson was a force this weekend as the women's volleyball team swept Whittier on Friday and beat Cal Lutheran in five sets on Saturday. The Atlanta, Ga. native hit for .348 against the Poets, tallying eight kills. The junior was also a defensive presence, recording 14 digs in the sweep.

Johnson played all five sets against the Athenas, leading the Panthers with 17 kills and three service aces. The outside hitter was once again a force on defense, tallying 17 digs against the 2016 SCIAC Champions.
