Braund and Garcia each net a pair in commanding win

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team got its third shutout of the season tonight in its 6-0 win over Caltech. Senior Elliot Braund and sophomore Justo Garcia each netted a pair of goals to lift the Panthers over the Beavers.

Chapman was on the attack the entire first half, outshooting Caltech 13-1, but was only able to convert one opportunity early in the half. Braund received a ball behind the defense from fellow senior Zev Gollis and slotted it into the back of the net in just the third minute of play.

The second half was all Chapman as the Panthers netted five goals to secure the victory, four of them coming within four minutes of each other.

Senior Lorenzo Belassen found the back of the net first in the second half off a cross from junior Kai Howe. Garcia was the next to strike, netting a pair of goals within just one minute of each other, both coming from hard strikes within 10 yards.

Braund was the next to tally his second goal, forcefully burying the ball in the back of the net after cleaning up a scrum in the box.

Freshman Nick Gilida was the final Panther to convert, netting a goal in the 74th minute to secure the 6-0 win over Caltech.

Chapman outshot the Beavers 35-7, with six of the Caltech shots coming in the second half. The Beavers' freshman goalkeeper Joe Como recorded 11 saves, coming up huge seven times in the second half.

The Panthers return home on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. as they host Occidental in another SCIAC match.
