Men’s soccer earns third consecutive win

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team produced a 2-0 win this afternoon against Occidental. Senior Elliott Braund, the Panther's leading goal scorer and the current SCIAC leading goal scorer, helped lift the team to victory, netting the second goal of the game and his seventh of the season.

Chapman maintained possession throughout the first ten minutes of the game and were finally able to find the back of the net in the 14th minute. Braund ripped a shot within the 18-yard box that was deflected off a defender. Junior Kai Howe found the rebound at his feet and finessed the ball past the keeper to make the score 1-0.

Less than one minute later, the Panthers struck again. Sophomore Justo Garcia gained possession at midfield, where he chipped the ball over Occidental's back line and found a wide open Braund. The senior took a few touches to gain some space between himself and the defender then slotted the ball low far post to secure Chapman's 2-0 victory.

Senior Sean Augustine came up big for the Panthers in the second half, recording four saves as the Tigers outshot Chapman 7-6. He tallied five saves overall, three of them coming from direct shots off one-on-one opportunities.

The Panthers travel to Caltech this weekend to kick off the second half of their season but return home to Wilson Field on Wednesday, Oct. 11 as they face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
