Howe nets pair of game-winners, earns SCIAC award

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University men's soccer senior Kai Howe was selected as the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week after a clutch couple of performances for the Panthers.

The Tokyo, Japan native helped lift Chapman to two consecutive wins this weeks by scoring both game-winning goals. The first goal came in overtime against Caltech on Wednesday afternoon, when he received a pass from freshman Riley Long at the top of the 19-yard box. Howe took a touch to set himself up, sending a shot into the lower left side netting to notch the golden-goal victory.

The captain's second game-winner of the week came in the 17th minute against La Verne on Saturday. Junior defender Jarod Matteoni sent a ball soaring over the Leopards' back line, where Howe took a touch before volleying it over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season.

After the clutch couple of goals this week, Howe currently ranks first in the conference with five total goals and 13 points. The pair of wins also propelled the Panthers into second place in the SCIAC standings with just over half of the season left to play.
