Men's soccer suffers 2-1 loss to Whittier

ORANGE, Calif. – A late equalizer was followed immediately by the game-winner as the Chapman University men's soccer team fell 2-1 to Whittier. Senior Patrick Quinn scored his first goal of the season.

Down 1-0 with time winding down, freshman Chris Sanchez sent a long throw into the box. Senior Jarod Matteoni flicked a header toward the net and Quinn redirected it with his head just inside the far post. The goal came in the 87th minute as a late equalizer.

Just 13 seconds later, Alejandro Trujillo put Whittier right back on top with a strike just under the bar from 20 yards out. The Poets withstood the Panthers final push forward to come away with the win.

Chapman fired off nine shots compared to Whittier's six in the physical match.

The Panthers play their next three matches at home to finish off the home schedule for the season. Chapman takes on Cal Lutheran on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
