Men's tennis sweeps singles to defeat Vassar

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three with an 8-1 victory over Vassar College (N.Y) at the Chapman tennis courts on Monday afternoon.

The Panthers opened the match taking two of three in doubles action as junior Brett Buford and sophomore Charlie Werman won their match 8-3 in the No. 2 spot and freshman Justin P. Thompson and sophomore Sam Mitteldorf won their match 8-4 from the No. 3 spot.

From there, Chapman (5-3 overall) lost just two sets over the six singles matches. Buford won on the No. 3 court for the third straight time, defeating Christian Phelps 6-4, 7-5. And senior Justin Thompson improved to 4-4 in dual matches this year with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Nick Litsky.  

Justin P. Thompson improved to 6-2 from the No. 2 spot defeating Daniel Cooper in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. And Werman earned his third straight win, recovering from an opening set loss 6-3 against Evan Udine to defeat him 7-6, 6-1 in the last two sets on court four.

Chapman will face another out-of-region team and look for its fourth straight win when it hosts Amherst College (Mass.) on Wednesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. at the Chapman tennis courts.
