Men's, women's tennis teams earn ITA academic honors

ORANGE, Calif. – Both Chapman University men's and women's tennis programs have earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Academic Team Award for the 2014-15 season, as announced by the ITA in July. Along with the team honors, eight Panthers (five men, three women) earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the year.

The Chapman men, with a team grade-point average of 3.38, were one of 50 Division III teams to earn a minimum cumulative average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. The Panthers were led by freshman Rasmus Helms (3.94), sophomore Josh Sarsfield (3.64), freshman Justin P. Thompson (3.59), sophomore Charlie Werman (3.57) and sophomore Sam Mitteldorf (3.57) who each were named to the Scholar-Athlete list.

On the women's side, the Panthers earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.29 and led by sophomore Madeline Saunders (3.83), junior Andrea Hammer (3.72) and freshman Lauren Ross (3.52) on the Scholar-Athlete list.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale), and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
