Men's tennis falls to Christopher Newport

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to visiting 27th-ranked Christopher Newport on Sunday at Anaheim Tennis Center. The Panthers captured a point in the top doubles match.

Senior Charlie Werman and Josh Sarsfield captured the Panthers' point with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. However, the Captains took both of the remaining doubles matches 8-4 for a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Werman forced a tiebreaker in the second set of the top singles match but fell 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). The nationally ranked Captains went on to win all six singles matches in straight sets to take the team win.

Chapman is back at Anaheim Tennis Center to face Schreiner on Saturday and Bowdoin on Sunday.
