ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University men's tennis team dropped two matches over the weekend, suffering a 9-0 loss to the visiting Bowdoin College men's tennis team on Sunday and a 5-4 heartbreaker to Schreiner on Saturday.

The defending national champion team dispatched Chapman in its season debut, sweeping all three doubles matches to carry a 3-0 lead into singles play. However, seniors Charlie Warman and Josh Sarsfield put up a fight against the Polar Bears' top doubles team, losing a hard-fought battle 8-6.

Sophomore Igor Silva also held his own during his singles match, with a slim 7-6 loss in the first set before suffering a 6-1 loss in the second set.

On Saturday, the Panthers took an early lead with wins in the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles matches. Werman and Sarsfield captured an 8-3 victory in the top doubles match while freshmen Darrus Lee and Len Kamemoto won 8-6 at No. 3.

Schreiner came back to take the match with wins in each of the top-4 singles matches. Lee and Kamemoto each won in three sets to capture the Panther's final two points.

Chapman is back at Anaheim Tennis Center to face Hardin Simmons on Monday at 5 p.m.
