Werman and Mead's upset leads to SCIAC weekly honors

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Charlie Werman was selected as the SCIAC men's tennis Athlete of the Week after he and teammate Mathew Mead upset the third-ranked doubles team in the nation.

Werman and Mead played their first doubles match together on Friday against Caltech. The pair scored a crucial win in the No. 1 doubles slot, pulling out a tiebreaker to complete the doubles sweep. The tiebreak win proved essential in the Panthers earning their first SCIAC win of the season with the 5-4 team victory.

The Panther duo wasn't done as it upset Division III's third-ranked doubles team. Werman and Mead won 8-4 over CMS' Julian Gordy and Daniel Morkovine, becoming the first SCIAC team to beat the pair this season.
