Men’s tennis improves to 4-4 with win over Principia

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team rolled past Principia College with a dominant 8-1 victory earlier this afternoon. Freshman Jacob Lee led the squad with a victory on both the No. 1 courts in his doubles and singles matches.

Lee and partner junior Brock DeHaven took an 8-6 victory on the No. 1 doubles court. Doubles partners sophomore Len Kamemoto and junior Matthew Mead and the freshmen duo of Troy Manditch and Brandon Sulzberg also won their matches to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead heading into the singles matches.

Lee took his second victory of the afternoon on the No. 1 singles court, beating his opponent 6-3, 6-0. Kamemoto and DeHaven went on to win their singles matches on the No. 2 and No. 4 courts, respectively, with DeHaven taking a 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3) tiebreaker victory. Manditch was the only Panther to drop his match, losing 2-6, 1-6 on the No. 3 court. Junior Igor Belineli notched a victory on the No. 5 court, taking his match 6-3, 6-4, while senior Rasmus Helms put up a couple of goose eggs with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over his opponent.

Chapman heads to Whittier for a SCIAC match on Saturday, March 24 but returns to Lastinger Tennis Center on Thursday, March 29 at 5 p.m. to take on Whitworth.
