Men’s tennis drops close final match

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team dropped a close match 5-4 to Occidental College (7-9, 1-6 SCIAC) in their final appearance of the 2018 season. The Panthers (5-11, 0-7 SIAC) were led by freshman Jacob Lee and his dominant singles victory on the No. 1 court.

The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead after winning their doubles matches 8-6, 9-7 and 8-1. Lee made quick of his singles opponent, winning 6-1, 6-0 on the top court. Sophomore Len Kamemoto had a tougher time with his opponent, but still pulled out the 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 come-from-behind victory on court No. 2.

Occidental took the next two matches on courts No. 3 and 4, but the Panthers took victories on the final two courts. Senior Rasmus Helms won 6-4, 6-0 in his final match as a Panther and sophomore Darrus Lee took his singles match 6-4, 6-2.

Despite winning four of the six singles matches, Chapman still fell, giving Occidental its first SCIAC victory of the season. The Panthers will return to Lastinger Tennis Center in the 2019 season.
