Men's tennis wins third straight over Wooster

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team won its third match in a row with a 6-3 victory over Wooster on Sunday. Freshman Adrien Rooney won his third consecutive singles match and improved to 5-2 on the year.

Rooney is 4-1 since moving up to the No. 2 court in the singles lineup and won his first three-set match of the season with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 win over Wooster today. He also improved to 2-0 with doubles partner sophomore Troy Manditch with an 8-3 win on doubles court No. 3.

The Panthers took an early advantage with a pair of 8-3 wins in the doubles portion of the match. Sophomore Jacob Lee and senior Brock DeHaven took the win on court two.

Lee is undefeated since his return three matches ago to play in the No. 3 spot in the lineup. He breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win to put the Panthers up 3-1. Straight set losses on courts one and five brought Wooster back but DeHaven won 6-4, 6-4 on court six to keep the Panthers out in front.

With two matches in a third set and the Panthers up 4-3, both Rooney and senior Matthew Mead came away with individual victories to clinch the team win. Mead won 6-0, 5-7, 7-5.

The Panthers are back on the court tomorrow to take on Hobart at 1 p.m. in the Lastinger Tennis Center.
