Men's tennis comes up just shy again against Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. – Another match came down to the wire and the Chapman University men's tennis team came up just short against Cal Lutheran. The Kingsmen take a 2-0 advantage in the SCIAC series with their second narrow 5-4 win.

With two doubles matches going into a tiebreaker, the Panther duo on the No. 2 court pulled out a key victory to avoid the hole Chapman faced in the first match. Junior Harry Cohen and freshman Alex Granados won 8-7 (5) but Cal Lutheran took a 2-1 team advantage with wins in the other two matches.

Chapman momentarily took a lead with two quick wins in singles. Cohen won the No. 3 match 6-2, 6-2 and was followed by freshman Danny Marsh's 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6. Sophomore Caleb Wilkins took the win in the No. 1 match when his opponent retired with an injury.

The Kingsmen took the No. 5 match as the last two remaining matches went into a third set. Sophomore Josh Blinder went into a third set in the No. 2 match but fell 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. With the match tied at 4-4, all eyes went to the No. 4 match but it was Cal Lutheran who again took the final point and the match.

Chapman and Cal Lutheran take a week off before resuming the SCIAC series on April 24.
